Research

I will undertake qualitative research projects that would benefit from a humanistic approach. I believe that research with people should be undertaken in an ethical way and that as such, my research follows strict ethical guidelines.

Research Interest

I am particularly interested in undertaking research in the following areas:

My research focus bridges the personal and the social - and provides an explanatory model for the interpersonal relationships we encounter along the way.

If you are commissioning a research project, please contact me to arrange a consultation - I will be happy to help.

Methodology

Qualitative, holistic methodology is the basis of my working practice and our methods are narrative in nature. This means that I listen to stories of lived experience and interpret these narrative accounts in a way that reflects the context of the personal, interpersonal and situated landscape.

Data Collection

This involves the construction of a non-hierarchical interview situation where the power dynamic is equally balanced. The advantage of this method of data collection is that in situations such as the workplace or surgery setting, the power dynamic is complex and unequal because of professional hierarchy.

This non-hierarchical, balanced environment brings better communication and research has shown that in this situation more information-rich data is possible.

Breaking down barriers

The contents of the interview are transcribed and investigated for themes which are problematic, either in individual cases or across the organisation. Recognition of these themes exposes negative beliefs and barriers that stand in the way of solutions nd identify commonalities amongst unique narratives. Exploring these provides alternative positive understandings and leads to a more person centred, mindful practice.
