Writing

Writing is an overarching passion in my life. I have been writing for many years and have had short stories published in women's magazines and in anthologies. I have a good catalogue of short stories and prose in hand, and regularly write fresh material.

My new love is novel writing. Following my extensive study of women's identity, I found myself in a position to use this insight to construct fictional identities for my characters and incorporate what I have collected over the years in to my new novel 'Dirty Sparkle'. This novel is the first in a set of five novels exploring the dialectics of identity in the real world. Follow the link in the sidebar for samples of Dirty Sparkle and more about the novel. My Second Novel 'Finding Isaak' explores fertility issues amongst a diverse groups of women. My third novel 'Life: Immaterial' looks at the perception of family roles and the dialectic of expectation/reality and the distance between the two for a career woman who is also a divorced mother. My novel-in-progress (as yet untitled) considers expectations and enabling in love. Clemantine has a list. She needs to tick all the boxes. Will she be lucky in love and find her prince?

I am also involved in writing non-fiction texts on the subject of identity, narrative psychology, critical realism, and women's health. I recently contributed a chapter to a collection of writing regarding narrative psychology

Christodoulou, J. A. (2006). An autobiography of health: The story so far. In Milnes, K., Horrocks, C., Kelly, N., Roberts, B. & Robinson, D. (Eds.), Narrative, memory and knowledge: Representations, aesthetics and context (pp. 127-135). Huddersfield: University of Huddersfield

My book entitled 'Women, Health and Identity: A new perspective' which showcases my model of identity construction will be published in 2010 by Palgrave Macmillan. Follow the link above 'An Autobiography of Health' for further details.

Additionally, I am part of the editorial team for 'Safety and Reliability' Journal and often write editorial pieces and reviews of events for this publication.

In 1995 I ran creative writing workshop courses for disadvantaged teenagers and the result was a poetry pamphlet entitled 'Urban Tripe' and a performance of poetry at Oldham Rep Theatre by the teenagers.
